A teenage burglar was caught red-handed as he fled from a Westville home yesterday.

Constable Stephen Clark said police received a call from a resident at about 11am, reporting that a man had been seen jumping over a wall into a property.

Officers from the Metro Dog Unit and SAPS Westville Crime Prevention responded immediately."

Clark said metro police Inspector Manuel Jardine and Constable Pierre Matthee arrived first at the scene and spotted the 18-year-old as he left the property with a bag of stolen goods.

The man attempted to flee but was brought down by a metro police dog and arrested.
/> Two laptop computers and power cables were recovered from the man.

He is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of housebreaking.

In another incident yesterday, a Durban pastor was shot and wounded when he was held up outside Nedbank on Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road in Durban. Police Inspector Michael Read said two pastors were making their way into the bank to deposit money collected at their church when they were accosted by four men.

"The men were carrying firearms and it is believed there was a struggle and one of the pastors was shot in the arm.

"The robbers took a bag of cash and fled in a black BMW," Read said.

He said police are investigating an attempted murder and armed robbery.
