An argument between two nine-year-old girls at a madressa has led to one of their fathers being stabbed to death.
Moegamat Nabeel Solomons was buried on Wednesday just a day after he was knifed in the right shoulder.
The young dad died of his injuries in hospital and his death has left neighbours in an uproar after a few of them saw the brutal attack on Tuesday afternoon.
When the Daily Voice arrived at Nabeel's Mitchells Plain home on Wednesday, his wife and other relatives were too traumatised to speak.
Neighbour Shafieka Botes, 30, who witnessed the stabbing, says the trouble began after Nabeel's daughter complained to her mother about a fight with another little girl at the local madressa.
"Nabeel's wife went to the madressa teacher and she advised the mother to go and see the other mother," Botes said.
Botes said things got out of hand when the two mothers came face to face, which eventually led to additional relatives and neighbours joining in an argument in Mongoose Street, Electric City.
"An unknown woman came and she was swearing at Nabeel's wife," she said. "There was a crowd."
Botes said Nabeel was stabbed while trying to defend his wife.
"He wanted to know who was (swearing) at his wife and he didn't even see the person who stabbed him," she said.
Neighbourhood watch member Jean de Roux, 69, said residents had tried to save Nabeel's life by placing pressure on the open wound.
"A neighbour carried him into his house and the blood was squirting out," she said.
Nabeel was rushed to Mitchells Plain Day Hospital where he later died.
Police spokesman Captain Rewayne Muller said a 38-year-old male will appear on a murder charge in court on Friday. - Daily Voice
