Court to rule on BA action against strike plans

December 17, 2009 Edition 1

LONDON: London's High Court will rule today over the legal action brought by British Airways to prevent a damaging cabin crew strike during the busy Christmas and New Year period.

Judge Laura Cox began hearing BA's application yesterday for an injunction to block the planned industrial action by cabin crew between December 22 and January 2, in a deepening row over working conditions.

British Airways had said on Tuesday that it would mount a legal challenge to trade union Unite's strike ballot of its 12 500 cabin crew members.

BA argues that Unite balloted workers who had already accepted voluntary redundancy, which they claim renders the overall ballot invalid.

The judge indicated during proceedings yesterday that she would give a decision by this afternoon. - Sapa-AFP
