Minority Front leader Amichand Rajbansi vowed on Tuesday to push ahead with criminal charges against an ANC leader who he said called him a “stooge”.

“I laid a criminal charge against a certain ANC member who called me a stooge. I will continue with the charges if the leader does not apologise publicly,” said Rajbansi.

He brought charges of crimen injuria against Chatsworth Youth Centre co-coordinator Clive Pillay for the remark he allegedly made in October last year, at an Indian cultural event in Chatsworth which they both attended.

The parties appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday last week.

“We have human rights in the country and you can’t insult the dignity of the person,” said Rajbansi.

The Minority Front leader said he believed he should set an example.

“I cannot tolerate an insult from him. In court the issue was left for mediation between the two parties and no court date was set.”

Pillay could not be immediately reached for comment. -
