DURBAN – Private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), has called on the public’s help in their search for 57-year-old Nezaam Shafee Rahman’ killer.

Rahman’s body, which was unidentified at the time, was found by Rusa paramedics and reaction officers on the morning of November 13 in a sugar cane plantation in Blackburn, near the Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom.

The paramedics declared the man deceased. He had suffered a broken nose and other injuries. Drugs, a liquor bottle and a pillow were found next to him. It is suspected that the victim was suffocated with a pillow.

Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram said that Rahman was unidentified until Wednesday evening when a family member contacted Rusa to report a missing person.

“When the picture was forwarded to the officer dealing with the matter, the deceased was immediately identified as Rahman, a father of two and a businessman operating a company in the Bluff, and a resident of North Beach in Durban,” Balram said.

He said Rahman’s metallic grey 2018 BMW 320D M Sport was missing. The vehicle, registration NUR 66050, has tinted windows and several scratches on the panels.

“According to Rahman’s wife, an unidentified man arrived at the Verulam SAPS on Monday morning and attempted to claim his body. The man believed to be one of the killers identified himself as the deceased's brother but hastily left the police station when he was questioned regarding his identity,” Balram said.

Balram said further information was being withheld from the public.

The family declined to comment saying they needed time to mourn. They were also unhappy with the Verulam police for not taking the matter seriously and conducting the necessary investigations to catch the killers.

Rahman was laid to rest at the Brook Street cemetery in Durban on Thursday night.

On Facebook, Shenaaz Hussain wrote: “This is my cousin...was the most humble, respectful and religious man. Never harm a fly. Do not know why he was killed in this manner. May his killers be caught....and justice be served.”
