There's a famous quote that goes: "An economist is an expert who will know tomorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn't happen today.” But while predictions are often overturned by events no-one has considered, they are nonetheless helpful in planning. Wise planning involves looking at current conditions, adding factors that are expected to come into play, and weighing up the probabilities of various outcomes. Knowing what will probably happen is at least better than sticking your head in the sand.
