Johannesburg - This week we feature South African-born radio and TV host Cato Bekker.

Bekker is best known for hosting and producing well-known kykNET reality programme , Die Uitnodiging. The TV show aims to “reconnect broken families and promote healing”.

Bekker started her career in radio hosting Lunch on 94.5 KFM and Afternoon Drive on Smile 90.4FM.

She is currently working on a second season of Die Uitnodiging, which is currently in production. She returns as the popular and affable host and executive producer.

The meal that most reminds you of your childhood is…?

There’s a soup I relished as a child – a rich brew of beans, carrots, leeks in chicken stock. I especially enjoy making it when in need of comfort. The taste recalls fond memories of times I enjoyed it with the people I love.

What is the biggest misconception people have of you?

Because I’m wearing heels on Die Uitnodiging, I suspect people may credit me for being a little taller than I am.

The one thing that has caught your attention most on social media during the past week is…?

Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar) and Gianmarco Tamberi (Italy) decided to share the gold medal in Olympic high jump. Usually, when there’s a dead tie in the final, competitors insist on a jump-off to determine who gets gold. But instead, these two friends decided to share the gold, which I thought was rather cute.

What is your favourite item of clothing in your closet currently?

I'm easily cold, so my favourite winter wear includes oversized woolly jerseys and puffy coats.

The moment you most regret in your life is..?

When I look back at things in life that I might, with the advantage of hindsight, have handled better, I try not to frame it as regret. Rather, remind myself that each moment is a learning experience. You may turn it into an advantage by learning from it.

Your favourite restaurant to visit is...? And what do you order?

I fancy Black Sheep on Kloof Street. Then I nod my head to whatever the waiter suggests. I’ve had some delicious meals there.

If you could co-host a show with any presenter in the world, who would you choose to co-host with?

I once saw Anna Kendrick on Trevor Noah’s show. She looked like a fun hang. Also, I would love to co-host a show with ShoMadjozi. I think that would be bundles of fun.

Tell us about the worst date you've been on….?

I went on a blind date once. A friend wanted to set up her boyfriend’s friend for a party themed “Cheerleaders & Jocks”. I should have read the signs, but ... When the chap arrived, he was already lubricated. Needless to say, the date didn’t see out the night. Made a beeline after the first dance!

What would be the theme song of your life….?

I'd opt for a classic like Journey - Don't Stop Believin'. It's so catchy that it’s hard to resist singing along. Plus, as soon as you start belting it out, the sounds boost your mood. Plus your friends can sing along. Life is more fun when your friends are singing along, right?

If you had the choice of competing in any Olympic event, what event would you choose to compete in?

When we went to Ratanga Junction as kids, I cleaned up at target shooting. Went home with arms full of soft toys. So maybe, in a fantasy Olympics, my sport would be skeet shooting.
